Thats interesting! Looks like you are making an adapter to mount the fan from its 4 posts to the alternator shaft. Then you cut a hole where it used to mount on the crankshaft.
This means air now enters from the back. Direction of rotation is therefore still the same.
Nice idea!

That looks very good, but I think it's a lot of work

.
You reversed the blades? Never thought that was possible - good one IMPI

There are a few reasons for doing a fan for a type four conversion this way.
Using the type four fan means you match vws design more closely.
fans with narrow blades like the type four seems to be more efficient.
I can now run the fan at crank speed.
the fan doesnt have to accelerate faster than the engine like a type one.
the fan being a casting does not need to be welded
it is lighter than a beetle fan.
There is some disadvantages though
it is unproven!
it takes some work to build
it will need a completely new fan housing
I am currently designing a completely new type of conversion.
Why would you ask since the original IMPI conversion works extremely well.....
It is simple
I can.
The original Impi is a bit bulky and with the current trends towards throttle bodies and injectors there is less space in engine compartments.
My vision is to make this conversion as simple and easy to fit that a 6 year old can do it.

Anothe plus, a slower turning fan will be worth a few extra ponies under foot
There is just so little dudes like you left.

keep up the interest.

Sorry I have never worked on a Type 1:
Will your setup mean that the alternator will turn slower than it normally does?

Geez..........you guys...........such venom.
Armand, what can be done about the reported cavatation the type 4 fan experiences around 4500 RPM?
For a street engine that sees brief full throttle blasts it might not be an issue, but if you can do any high RPM crusing (or racing) it might be worth noting:
