The ultimate 550?
This Spyder on display at Porsche Jhb had me thinking it is the real thing for a while. I didn't want to tap against the body like some idiot to see if it is fibreglass, but a salesman said it is a replica. No pics will do it justice - it is by far the best replica I have ever seen, and I would love to shake the hand of the builder - no, the artist - who brought this to life. It is unbelievable. Gary and Rabid, I would like to hear your comments as well?

Sheesh that is nice, I would never have guessed its a replica. Only thing that looks out of place is the petrol pedal ?

Re: The ultimate 550?
That is awesome....................needs to get the proper repro steering wheel though. But Overall I like.
Re: The ultimate 550?
I have never seen a real one so can not compare but----- Very nice----,
The problem with replicas nowadays is that they can be better than the original cars--so how do you compare them. This was a problem in the Cobra clubs some time ago where concours judges could not decide how much to allow before a car is over the top.
I did not know about this one. What was the price on it ? There is one ( yellow )floating around in the Porsche dealers in Gauteng for R140000.00---last seen at APPEX Porsche
Maybe one day
cheers

Re: The ultimate 550?
The silver 550 is not for sale, AFAIK. It seemed like it has the correct mid-engine configuration, as I could see the spare wheel through the rear vents, where the engine normally goes.

Also had a look at this car a couple of days ago... hmm sweet ride. But yes not for sale, DP of the branches bought the car for display only. Very clean and very nice. Lost of love when into that build.

Re: The ultimate 550?
I've decided that once my speedster is done, I'm going to build a 550. I know where a shell is going for cheap that needs a tonne of work.

Re: The ultimate 550?
No more than R100 000
If you do 90% of the work yourself though. The nice thing about the spyder is that there isn't much along the lines of trim and interior that needs to go on.
The shell goes for about R25 000 - R30 000, so work the rest out from there.

Re: The ultimate 550?
I suppose the more you do yourself, the less it will cost. As F4F said previously, it is usually all the add-one goodies that load the total cost. In these days, time is the one thing we don't have, and a car like that won't be built overnight. Patience is the magic word..

Re: The ultimate 550?
^^^Nice Ad.
Like Pine said the small stuff quickly add up. The trim that most of SA speedsters is missing is about R20 000. (at least). But trolling ebay for bargains and forums can yeild some good buys. Using my contacts and doing most of the work myself, I reckon I could get one done and rolling on the road with a nice type 4 engine for under R80 000.
