Kombi tent

Post by fig »

After looking for one for years, I scored this cool drive-away kombi tent a few months back. I set it up for the first time this past weekend. It's identical to one pictured in a 1974 VWSA brochure for the kombi camper:

A guy saw my Dormobile at the Parys Wings & Wheels show and told me he had it for sale.

They were very popular in the 70s/80s and shouldn't be that hard to find. I'd been looking for one for years then found two in the same week. I haven't taken delivery of the second one yet; I may keep it or sell it.

Dibs if you sell the second. I'm intending on visiting home in Dec and going camping with our bay for Christmas. Will it fit. If so be a good Santa and pass it this way.

Chris beat you to it. You're second in line.

The tent pictured above is made for a bay bus. I bought the second one sight unseen and I don't have it yet. All I know is that it is dark blue and light blue and it was described as a Kombi tent.

Is that what they used to refer to as a 'Rally' tent?

I've only ever known them as kombi tents.

A rally tent to me is one that attaches to the side of a caravan; not drive-away.

Well this presents an opportunity - Is there not someone that can take measurements and do a bit of needlework? If there are so much interest there is surely a market - I for one would like to find out what such an endeavour would cost, add a couple of bob for effort and everyone wins!?!?!?! So who knows how to operate them sewing machines??? Canvas should be readily available, and then the ACVW logo can be emroidered on the door!!!
