My rubber is leaking! ;)

Post by Merlin »

's up?

I'm running 8s with Goodyear rubber...

My wheels, some more than others, are leaking air at a rapid rate.

At the moment I'm pumping the front to about 1.8and the rear to 2.

Within 3 days or so one of my front wheels will be under a bar, and the other slightly higher. The rears are also leaking, but slower.

A mate has suggested getting some of that rubber solution stuff, like you'd find in a mountain bikes tyres, but I'm told that is only a short-term solution...

Have any of you experienced this and if so, any suggestions on how to cure it?

My mate took his wheels to get re-set, but this did not help except for the rubber solution...

Get them checked for punctures, the valves could also be a problem, some mag wheels need special metal valves but they are far more expensive than the conventional rubber jobs, these leak like a sieve on mags, the dudes are nor prepared to pay for the right stuff and the rubber valves just don't cut it. I once tried some crap product on my bicycle wheels that helped prevent punctures, all they did was block up the valve and I was unable to refill the wheels.

Hey Rui,

Sorry, I should've mentioned. I do have metal valve stems.

I'll go past TWT tomorrow...

Yah, as an aside, do not ever use rubber solution in bicycle tubes...nor liners.

...learn how to ride a bike, and cut your puncture possibilties to near nil. :)

Take it from a former pro mechie. ;)

Don't ask, just trust.

I can give you much better advice and it is advice from a former SEMI-PRO racer, if you want to prevent punctures on your bicycle all you need to do is ------- stop riding your bicycle.

A couple of places...

I worked with Mo Skikne for a long time, and for a short duration with Linden.

I've also done heaps of private work.

If you can think of a business relating to the bike industry I've done it...online/offline media, mechie, sales, rider, instructor, etc.

You could have rust on the inside of the rim where the tire seats or where the valve goes throu the rim, hold the wheele under water and check where the leak is comming from. Remove any rust from inside the rim and that could solve the problem......

PS. If you find that your rubber is leaking your next step should be a pregnancy test.....
