Hi all

About 7 years ago I started to for fill my life long dream of building a kit car. Circumstances and financial constraints almost rob my of my dream. Through God’s grace alone I’m back on track in completing my car.

It all started with a Porsche 550 Spyder kit from KCC. All major work was done up to the point that I could take the car for a spin. I went through lot of internal turmoil in selecting the best engine for my Spyder, Rotary, Subaru, Type 4 etc. etc….. As things would have it, a Type 3 motor found its way into my car. Did some driving around feeling the car, tuning the suspension and the obvious happened !!!! Need more power. So I’m currently busy building a 1776cc motor with all the good stuff to make 100HP. The spec is such that I can easily slap on a Turbo in the future if needed???

What do I still need to complete the car? Complete the engine, do some minor body work and paint…. The end is in sight and if all goes well, I should complete the car this year !!!??? :drunks:

Cheers
Lean

Nice...................I'm glad to finally see that we have a 550 replica in here.

More pictures.........is it the shortened kit or the stock wheel base?

Welcome Lean. Respect for tackling this project, it's looking good so far :hangloose:

It'll be like putting 'Titanic' on your yacht, or 'Helderberg' on your microlight...

...or how 'bout calling your blow-up doll 'Hindenburg'?

Thanks for all your kind remarks.

I’ll post a link to pics soon, with some more info regarding the build and all the problems I had with the kit. The Spyder kit is a much more difficult kit to build than the Speedster.

flatfourfan: It basically uses a space frame with beetle running gear. But the gearbox is swapped around for mid-mount application. The wheelbase is slightly shorter than stock.

And

The James Dean curse is nothing compared to living in SA. I reckon its much safer speeding in a Spyder than sitting @ home watching TV…..
