Wrecked Exotic Mystery

Saw this pic on the Net of a 300SL Gullwing with a bloody nose. Check out the reg number, if I'm not mistaken that is Namibia, Windhoek?? As far as I know there has never been a Gullwing on the continent of Africa, South of the Equator? Does anyone recognise the street? (I've never been to Namibia myself, but that looks European)

OK, I didn't think so either, but what do you say about the plate? Do you think it is Namibian?

Actually, there were about 2 Gullwings in ZA, I know that there was one advertised a while back in one of the UK classic car magazines, from further up Africa. Was selling for a crazy amount in GBP, was probably bought for a handful of beads from the natives :?

A senior member of the MBSA club told me that they don't know about any Gullwings here, and if there were any, the owners won't tell...

Just wonder where and when he drives it then, or does he have a truck with a ramp like Knight Rider, and only take it out for a few km's moonlight driving through the Karoo when he feels like it?

Not too sure about it being Paris... there happens to be a bus in the background. You dont see many of those on the streets of France
Plus the number plate def isnt French

You're looking at a car that was worth almost $1 Million. This photo was taken at the annual "La Carrera Panamericana" race held in Mexico. The race is limited to classic cars produced before 1965.
Saw that too, but the same byline is at another pic with a different crashed Merc. I still think those are Namibian plates?

I agree, Namibian plates; I've no idea where pic was taken.

There was a feature in Car mag late 80s on a beautiful gullwing in Stellenbosch. The same article also referred to another one in boxes in CTN. Both probably left SA years ago.

Also in the '80s, there was a Golf GTI advert with the the Blower Bentley, Jaguar E-Type, Porsche 930 Turbo and a Gullwing, all with the old orange and black plates :o

Incidentally, the Gullwing had ND registration, could this be a third?
