not really. You build an engine according to your needs then once its all figured out, decide on a cam to tie it all together.

Now that is the comment i was waiting to hear for a very long time... :hangloose: as i dont know even where to start asking questions re: technical issues and component combos...

Although Vader did get em thinking and mayb its not all bad to start some where as im sure there is a proven process in building a motor.. ( im a process kinda guy... )

So the cam brings everything together....

So where can i ask advice on where to start builing a
twin carb - 40mm Solex
1649 (69x88) displacement
stock heads and valves (mild head flow and polish) - maybe bigger exhaust
W110 (430 lift, 284 Durtion)
4 into 1 exhaust with PowerFlow freeflow mufler
CR 8:1 ( for reliability )

engine

I wouldn't say it's a waste of money. You can have a very good result with a nicely set up 1600. I would go for a Engle 110 though, or equivalent. I also had good results with 1:1.25 rockers on a standard cam. I did multiple mods to my buggy motor, all had results, some better than others. I wrote an article about it some time ago where I compared what I did to what the professionals did, step by step, when I'm home next, I'll post it. It discusses the mods, the power outputs, (I used to kuier at Windsor motors) carbs, dizzies, exhausts etc. One of the things I found was the "myth"-application of the 009 distributor. I was told that it was the best thing since sliced bread and it added power and to put it on my standard 1600 twin port... Of course it doesn't, and as long as you are running a motor with a good vacuum signal, avoid the 009. It has it's applications, but they seldom apply to cars that are "daily drivers". Tom found the same and he binned his, I think he was so disgusted, he didn't even sell it on! hehe...

Thanks Ron...

Unfortuanatley i bought / impoted all my goodies for use with 94 barrels and a W110 is exactly what i have... So in essemce i wanted to build a 1914, but as life may have had it i had to sell and now own 88's.

So ill have to make the best of what i got.

What RPM can i expect with a W110 cam?? (obviously the heads will have work done to them)
and what followers must i use?? ( the Empi drilled ones seem to be the right choice there???)
Would High Ratio Rockers give me added RPM or would that be an ver kill.

He Ron, i would appreciate a copy of your article man :hangloose:

Please PM me
Thanks guys...

Honestly, a 009 with a STOCK carb is SHIT. Way too many flat spots/hesitation/lag..... you have to upgrade the main Pilot jet in the carb to at least a 130. Otherwise you are wasting your time and money....

highjack over.
