There has been some calls for me to update The Week That Was,so here goes.

In the last couple of weeks we have seen the country turned on it's head economy and political wise. Our rand has taken a beating and the cost of living has soared even though the price of fuel came down 3 months in a row.Importing has become expensive, and companies are feeling the crunch.Car companies especially have been affected badly, and we have seen VW pull Seat out the market,GM opting for 4 day work weeks and Ford struggling to get car sales.

Banks are repossesing cars at a rate of 7000 a month because the people can't keep up with the payments.on a recent visit to Aucor in PE I was shocked to see the amount of cars that was in their yard, and mostly expensive cars.People are realy hard pressed at the moment, and some reatailers are getting creative with their marketting to get sales.Auto Pedigree has a deal where you get a Citi Golf if you purchase a VW Sharan and GM gives you a Harley when you buy a Hummer H3.

The possitive spin-off that came out of this,is that there are now vehicle retailers that are buying cars from aution houses for a lot cheaper and selling them off to the public at below book value. This has caused the second hand market to become a lot more affordable. If you are in the market for a second hand car, shop around and haggle, you will get agood deal. They are desparate to get the vehicle sold, but make sure that you need to buy a "new" car,as the situation might become worse before it gets better.

Political turmoil was also been the order of the day with Mbeki being recalled by the ANC and Lekota and Shilowa walking out of parlaiment with half of the cabinet hot on their heels.JZ is running around the world and acting as president and saying that the ANC has "kicked" the trouble makers out, while the acting president is saying that he is willing to take the defectors back if they would only talk to them.Mugabe is still, well,Mugabe, and stubourn as a red wine stain on a very expensive white silk evening dress.Even Africa's best washing powder,SADEC OMO,can't wash him out.

Barack Obama has won convincingly in the US presidential race and made him the first president of colour in the US.Only time will tell if he will be good for the economy and if he will be able to pull America back from the brink of disaster.

But while all this was going on we have seen some good things happening here.Rabid Ant and Rabbid Auntie has been blessed with a new born, and Rabit Ant hasn't been sleeping too well the last couple of weeks.

SambaOwner has had a back opperation that has been a succes thus far,but also blessed him with a couple of sleepless and hanky pankyless nights.

Lowlight has been to Cape Town with his daughter that was competing in gymnastics and she has done well to end 16th out of the fourty competitors that was in attendance.

The ACVWSA site's generosity has also made sure that a young boy's dreams became reality when the showed what they were made off when they helped him to get his first Bug.Happy building 1972.This has seen the beggining of the Reach for an Aircooled Dream.Well done Forum!!

It looks like the Darkside has finaly found it's force, when Dark Lord Vader heard his engine roar into life yesterday.Only question we have now,is how long it will still stand in HR's driveway?I heard rumours of cars moving there without any drivers in them.Maybe the Darkside is becoming a black hole, and pulling everything into its inescapable gravity.

In a secret project, which I can now reveal, some members(Goblin,Muderick and others) have come together and bought a one owner, full service history, well maintained, rust free, low mileage,OG prestine paint, complete '56 Oval.By the next meeting it would have been succesfully converted in a Rat look Bug,ready for Blitz to be the new proud owner. Many happy miles Blitzie!

Recently ACVWSA has also seen it's 1000th member, and is still growing by the day.Wonder if a highly acclaimed local magazine,YOU,had anything to do with the numbers...?

A lot of members have got new cars.Que,our lady member that is "other half challanged",got a new Bug,after her's was written off.Bugger got a new Squareback, and his better half got her new Bug,AND a new paint job, thanks to Buggers driving abbility while under the influence.Beetlepower found a good looking Fastback,I got a Grawomobile, uniTza got his hands on a Brazilian Kombi,SambaOwner bought a Caravelle Kombi and Brianj found a BMW motorcycle....oh,wait,that is not a VW!

Some of the members have also had their birthdays and have become a lot wiser, although Hifibug seems to think I'm the grayest member on the forum.

Unfortunately there has also been some thefts of Bugs and recently there were hopes that Vuyo's beetle might have been found. But as it turned out it wasn't to be.Dirk's Fastbak Unicorn has also proven to be just that.It will however live on in other projects,as Dirk is now selling parts to people to keep their dreams alive and running.Sorry Buddy.Baron has seen his dreams go up in flames when a runaway veldfire destroyed a long running Porsche project.Very sad.

Splitfan's Split Scream project is coming along nicely,Lowlights Westy is is gathering momentum,Tom's Kubel is going to be kick-ass cool and Pine will get HotWheels2 on the road soon seeing that he is spending less time on the forum.Pine, how's that working out for you?

And finally,Eben has locked the Seatcover forum.Seems like titty is taking over the bandwidth.Like that is new!

Some words of wisdom from a poor mercant:"_gimel, zayin, yud"

This too shall pass!
