In short yes. Though some insurance companies will want to see the car and the sound system just to make sure its all there and not damaged. That way they know you not going to claim in two weeks after being insured with them for damage that occurred before the insurance...

i just want to know ...if i say wanted to buy a subaru from japan and import it here but with n o intention of registering it here just want to gut it for parts...how would one go about that?? :)

If it's left hand drive you can't. :(
If it's second hand you need an import permit.

Do you think that there are some issues with the rules? I hope that there are some clearer regulations since there are some aspects that have gone missing with the things that we see all over the place and I think it can improve even more in the foreseeable future with South Africa.

Nope the rules are clear you can now growth the stuff legally.
