This grand dame has a few surface rust spots and a ding on the right rear, but is roadworthy and in a generally good condition.

Know of anybody who would like to take on this project or recommendations of garages/panelbeater's that do restorations in the Western Cape?

If the "young" dames are part of the deal I believe you will have to choose which contender will be the better one !!!!!
Just a joke !
🤣😂🤣😂
It depends how deep your pockets are ,......me thinks !

Hi Haans,

The camper was first spotted in Cape Town in 2005 and telephone numbers exchanged. At the time the couple were touring in SA having originally bought it in Durban. At some stage they replaced the original 1200cc engine with a 1300cc. In 2008 they decided to go overseas and needed R35k so the deal was sealed.

The camper has been in the family ever since. She has served as a mobile slushy machine for Annaleen and Daniel's pocket money while at school and also as a carriage for matric farewells. She starts easily and runs smoothly.

I've worked through Sean's posts of his 60 Westphalia. Is there anybody on the group who can decode the VIN for us as somebody claims it was not originally a camper? The VIN is AAPV0250660480643

That VIN won’t help you. AAP numbers are allocated by police clearance offices.

Hi

I was going to tell you to check the bulkhead behind the front bench seat on drivers side for the M-plate, but then noticed in the pics that the entire bulkhead has been cut out. Pity, this history is lost.

Judging by the sub hatch and tent brackets, it appears to have been a Westfalia.

You can also check in the engine bay. There is a plate on RHS just below petrol tank. It will have original VIN, but not any details regarding being a Westfalia.

The VIN number you have provided is not original to the bus.

Perhaps you should also specify what you define as a restoration.

A restoration is back to factory condition when new. Every nut and bolt. This costs several 100's of thousands.

Or are you just looking for a respray?

Looks like a SO34 so might have had a flipseat so the M-plate might still be somewhere.

This was the one that was up for sale a while back. (But IIRC I couldn't find the location of the M-plate.)

Thanks for your interest guys. It seems to me it is a flipseat - here are some more photos

Am not sure where to look for the M-Plate, any ideas?

Here is a picture of some of the rust appearing:

And this body rust at the front bumper

Look under the seat for the M-plate.

Thanks.
Since I last posted I've been down the Google rabbit hole trying to learn as much as I can. At first I jotted everything down on Word but felt it was limited for what I wanted to do.

I realised a mind map would be more efficient as one can cut and paste links and easily group and arrange topics of interests. I downloaded FreeMind from the Internet.

This is a picture file of the mind map - If you would like the original FreeMind file let me know and I will email you a copy.

I am busy with a Project Plan as well and will post details later.
