Hi Guys

Anyone have a sketch of the dimesions of a centering tool for a 1971 Bug.

I have the clutch plate with me at work but forgot to measure the spiggot shaft on the end of the output shaft on the gearbox.

I have a machine shop so hoping to machine a tool today if anyone can give me a size or sketch.

Ta

No matter what I try, just can't seem to get this bloody motor in even after centering the clutch plate with the tool I machined.
Tried all different angles and heights but basically governed by the two bottom studs.
Had this motor in and out about 6 times but never struggled like this. Tried turning wheels slowly, released clutch wing nut and turning crank pulley.
I'm properly stumped.

sometimes it just doesnt play ball. And then suddenly it just slides in.

Maybe your release bearing isnt on properly?
Accel cable getting caught?
Exh hitting body?

Option 1 only, not playing ball.

Give it another go when the mood improves

Make sure the bellhousing to flywheel gap is more or less even as you try mating the two.

Do not push it hard up against the gearbox, or you spigot will stay where it is and you will not get it in.

push motor till it stops against the flywheel, then pull back about 10 mm lift the engine, and push again,

if it does not go in pull back again and lift engine a bit to the left, and push again, and so on,

you will find the spigot has a bit of play so you need to have a bit more of a gap at the top of the bell housing to get the spigot to point true to center.

Did you put a bit of grease into the flywheel needle bearing ?

this will also help to slide home.

Are you using the correct presure plate for the gearbox, there are 2 types of pressure plates, and 2 different dia. post pics will help.

Everything that's fitted has been working a while.
Tried fighting a bit more this evening but not quite home yet.
Going to bring a 12 lbs hammer from work tomorrow and see if she gets a suitable fright and jumps back in

If the studs are in and you can get a nut on the two bottom ones, may be press the clutch and it may center itself and slid in.
