Mixture screw removal Solex

Post by No More Landy »

While trying to adjust the fuel mixture I found that I can fully close this screw without it stalling or affecting the idle. Some time back I had the carb reconditioned at Carb center so not sure what they did. Before this the screw definitely affected the idle and it cut the engine when screwed in. I was trying to remove the screw tonight but cannot get it out due to the o-ring keeping it in the pocket.
Any idea how to remove it other than glueing a screwdriver onto the head and also what could make it no longer adjust even though it does bottom out in the threads. Bit puzzled.

All that comes to mind is that your butterfly is not closing fully

No sense being pessimistic. It wouldn't work anyway.

I don't think that's it as there is no overflow into the throat during idle when I look down, nor when I shut her down.
How would the butterfly get stuck open?

Its normally wear on the shaft that moves the butterfly over and then it jams against the side

With a lot of use it can make a edge there and then uses it as a stop.

Try moving the shaft it may get back to its center position.

I see the stopper screw is hard up against the choke cam when the car is warm and the thread is only just touching the cam.
But I will take off the airbox and have a squiz down to see if the flutterby is properly closed and is not catching on the body.
If not I will try glue my screwdriver into the slot and pull out the mixture screw so I can blow some air into that chamber ?
