Oil temp Sensor/Oil Pressure Relief valve Adapter plug

Post by TheRookie »

Hi Guys

Ive been reading up on how and where to fit the sensor .

Ive seen on the forum that some suggest using a VDO sensor or a 1/8NPT adaptor at the oil pressure relief valve location .

A few years ago i owned a Subaru STI and fitted a sensor using an adaptor available from Subaru . It cost way less than the Vdo Sensor and the Gowesty adaptor and is an 18mm/1.5mm thread with a 1/8NPT thread for sensor.

Feel free to google the part number for specifications

Below are the part numbers from Subaru

So you want to fit a oil temp sensor to where the oil pressure sensor fits?
To get a reading of the oil temp, the oil needs to be moving past the sensor to be accurate - i.e. it needs to be in the flow. Sitting at the end of a pipe with stagnant oil isnt going to give you accurate readings.
Think of the hot water tap in your bathroom. Its the same pressure as the water in your geysor, but is it the same temp? No, it isnt, not until enough water has flowed through it to give you an accurate reading....

Fit a pressure sensor at the stock pressure sensor location. You will see when the oil is at normal pressure (normal temp) vs high pressure (cold).
