Reliable reconditioned engine

Morning all,
I am a newbie to Beetle engines, fixing up a beetle for a friend's grandmother. its a 1974 beetle and the engine is shot!
I have priced the parts and I'll have to replace almost the whole engine so I was thinking of just going for a reconditioned engine. VWDubTech in Brakpan has some - are they reliable? They only offer a CPA guarantee, i.e. three months, which makes me a bit nervous.
Also, is there anywhere else I could try.
