Sealing nuts???

Post by 73type2 »

I'm busy putting a Beetle 1200 engine back together and found sealing nuts used on the case. I would like to install new ones, but find that the closest nut in South Africa is nyloc. I read that the sealing nut has a rubber insert. Does anybody know where in South Africa I can get these sealing nuts, or can I just go ahead and use nyloc nuts?

Original nut:

you arent going to find them locally.
Use nylocs or standard nuts with copper washers

Use some RTV sealer at the base of the stud threads before bolting on the nut, does the same job.

Flat four racing used to seal these in a pack of 4 for the oil pump cover, they were not cheap something like R50 for 4

I use shellac gasket sealer (that molasses like stuff) at the base of the studs.
