Restoration of my 1973 VW Jurgens Autovilla

Post by RebeccaB »

Hi Everyone,

I am the proud owner of a 1973 Jurgens Autovilla which was in storage for 18 years.

I now would like to have her restored, mechanically and also the body needs some work.

Can anyone recommend a mechanic ?

I also have a blog with some fun short Autovilla stories.
https://theolivellamariposaautovilla.tr ... s-stories/
and more stories you can find on the menu of my website

Wow.
I just read two of your stories and your writing is brilliant, stories are pretty good and interesting too.

I was honestly going to ignore your post as I mainly focus on performance modifications, but due to your writings, I'm happy to help you with some of your mechanical work if you have a timetable that suits mine...
pm me if you are interested.

Good luck with your project. I hope it goes all smoothly, and remember, there are plenty people out there who are looking to make a quick buck.
Please keep us up to date with your restoration.

Hi Rebecca

Was the Autovilla parked off in a perfectly good driving condition?

It seems you had it stored indoors, so only bad fuel and blocked fuel lines should be a problem getting it going again. Brakes may also need some attention, but everything else should be fine.

Perhaps you can share some pics of the current state of the body work. Is it just a respray or does it have rust issues?

Hi Sean,
Thank you for your message.
And yes, The Autovilla was in good driving condtion when I drove it into the underground garage at Milpark in 2002.
So the Villa was stored indoors.

https://theolivellamariposaautovilla.tr ... villa-now/

One problem I had was an electrical problem. The battery was draining and going flat if I did not drive the Autovilla for a day or so.
Even after fittin a new powerfull battery.

I recently received pictures of the body... rust... but I must say the spots are the same as they were 18 years ago.

What is not so nice...is that the wood in the lower part of the villa is rotten. So I will have to deal with that as well.

Please see attached pictures.

Stay safe

Rebecca

Hi

Has anyone in the Western Cape or Cape Town had their aircooled serviced by Henry from Berg Motor spares?

If yes...what experience have you had?

Milpark is a block of flats in Cape Town
If I'm not mistaken it is in Milnerton, just of Koeberg Road, where the old mini-cini used to be when I was a kid.

Sandblasing / restoring my Autovilla's wheels.

Any one... can you recommend where I could have it done in Cape Town or nearby? How much money should I budget for it?

Thank you
