Re: IGNITION
Hi Haans
You must check what variation of distributor it is. Its irrelevant what you took it out of as it may have been incorrect.
The distributor has a Bosch and VW part number stamped into it. You can post the number here.
There are 3 variations out there.
2l CU type 4
1.9 WBX
2.1 WBX (no go for any aircooled motor)
You can only use the 1.9WBX dizzy on a type 1 1.6L motor. The other 2 will have the incorrect advance curve, although the motor will run on them.
Do have the loom that came with the dizzy? The Golf loom uses a different plug to connect to the dizzy. The module and the coil is the same from the earlier Golfs, or for that matter, any VW of the era, Passats, Jettas, Kombis, Golfs etc. The aftermarket part number for the TCI module is a TP100, but remember this is not such good quality. You can buy them new at VW still, but these are also rubbish. The old VW - Telefunken, Fairchild or Bosch units are the best. You will find them at a breakers yard, same for the coils. If you don't find second hand, you can buy a new Bosch TCI coil (pricey).

Re: IGNITION
accuspark should live longer with the points coil
The module you are talking about is a TC or TCI unit, cant remember the exact name, but yes, the one from a golf or kombi will work as long as you have the wiring. Get a good quality unit, Bosch or VW, stay away from the cheap ones.
I dont know if a T4 dizzy will work on a T1 engine

Re: IGNITION
wiring looks right, dizzy numbers seem right - again, I dont know if a T4 dizzy fits into a T1
Get a early golf coil or microbus coil and it should work well, avoid Huco if you can or carry a spare
Of the available options, that is a really great one and one of the best choices. Finding good ones is getting difficult.

Re: IGNITION
Will bolt on, just need to change the clamp, yse your original item.
The plug on this one looks like its the square golf type, hopfully the hall sensor on it is a quality one as its deffenetly not the original.
For what it's worth, ignorance has no limits ......

Re: IGNITION
Hi Haans
The distributor you have does have the type4 motor clamp, but you can obviously just swap the clamp. All distributors from a 30hp 1100, type 4's and through to your 2.1i WBX can all work on one another (not correct though). The bodies are all very much the same, this is why they can be so mixed up and to the untrained eye will think its correct.
The distributor in your picture is however from a 2l type 4 motor, this is not the correct advance curve for a type 1 motor. As mentioned it will run with it, but I wouldn't advise.
You also have a loom pictured there from a Golf. That will not be able to plug into you distributor. If it however does, the hall sensor has probably been replaced as Calooker has mentioned. That's not good. Your older distributors utilise a different plug to the later ones. Only the plug on distributor differs, everything else is the same.

Re: IGNITION
I'm going in circles,
If that dissy is from a 2L bus will it damage my 1600 tp motor.
Is someone sealing a dissy for a 1600 tp.

Re: IGNITION
Bus running lekker ,in the garden, wish I could take it for a drive.
Fitted a dissy that I found in all my vw parts zozo.
023 905 205al
Only concerns I got now is no vacuum on idle but just as you take it of idle there is vacuum. Is this normal?
The other one is when I connect my dwell angle terminal to the coil it shocks me and never done that before what could cause this.
Once again appreciate all the advise from you guys.

Re: IGNITION
Vinnie,...these clever people always confuse me with all the facts !!
However,...according to. My understanding,....any type 4 distrb will will work BUT ,....due to the advance curve it can be detremetal to a type 1 engine!!
With my setup,...I'm going to find the "old" coil and fit it,....it seems that the "electronic" points will last longer!!
Tony ....question what type of ohm's should I aim for ,........want to check the current setup and then the "new" old coil as well
Thanks for all the patience/ courage shown during this topic!
