Is it possible to modify an old style Big Beetle headlight (62) to fit a 7 inch Golf 1 headlight ?
I want to remove the old reflector and replace it with a 7 inch headlight (Golf 1)

I did exactly that with my 58 Ghia, took a bit of fiddling and fabricating cleats etc don't know if this applies to your situation

Yes they work a treat.
You have two options
One is to fit 3 lugs into the light bowl to fit the new Golf 1 Semi sealed lamp and holder, then you only use the glass and chrome ring to bring it back to stock.
Or
You strip the semi sealed out of its bracket, and fit it using the reflector clips mount it as the old reflector was mounted.
still using the old glass over the golf light with chrome ring.
Enjoy

Thanks Herman for the good advise !! Appreciated ...I think option 2 is the route I wanna go
Does it fit/ line up nicely ? do I need to modify or add anything ?

I just added a foam strip to avoid rattling in between the frame and glass
Then all fit nicely I did not even have to set the light as it was set before and when turning on the lights, it was perfect.
Just do not let the spring clips hit you in the face, it hurts

OK just to clarify,
Not sure which lights you have in your beetle. the 2nd option is for the USA style light with the flat landing for the reflector.
The other SA type you would need to trim the mounting bracket of the Golf fitting, and bend down the 3 tabs needed to mount into your sloping light filler so that you can drill the holes for the 3 rubber inserts , one to fix pivot and the other two for the adjusters
So work out where the 3 tabs will be and cut the rest of the fixing rim to pass through the light sloping filler.
Maybe if you post photo's of which light you have it would be easy to explain.

Thanks Herman !
I would imagine the ones I have are the old SA ones they have the grey spacer that the reflector
fits into with the rubber plugs and has mounting screws at 2 & 8 o'clock
I am going to be using these on a Speedster build
