Hi guys, what is the purpose of the port/tube on the twin carb headers of my type 2/4 motor?

if I'm not mistaken, those are connect from one manifold to the other with a decent sized hose. It helps the engine to drive and idel smoother by balancing the pressure pulses.

Perfectly correct, this stops the fuel from stop / starting in the manifold, giving a buffeting effect.
When the fuel flows then has to stop, and then start flowing again.
Makes balancing the carbs much easier as well .
Means your car runs smoother.
