A 2 post lift is on my bucket list of garage equipment

That certainly helps and it being in a warehouse... so there is hopefully loads if space to organise all your parts, tools, lazy boy, bar fridge

Hi Jacques,
I did import some unique Thing parts from the Thing Shop in the US.
Some VW generic parts have been sourced locally. Panels will be my nightmare when the paint is removed.

Riaan,
Warehouse space is valuable and expensive and not designed for cars and toy storage. You can never have enough space for cars and bikes and toys no matter how big the warehouse so this is my constant challenge. Yes to the bar fridge though vital garage equipment :D
Ciao

I don't see the A-frame Herman. It looks like you're just parking in front of the Thing, in the middle of the road! :D
Dammm.... These guys on this forum are just to sharp for me....

Was actually being pushed after breaking down, as junk and bad workmanship normally does.

The driver of the thing was so embarrassed that he hid under the dash when he spotted the camera.

And I thought I could Bull :bn: this one as well ....

Greetings and apologies for being so quiet but same challenges as most during these challenging times. I trust you are all well :) The good news is I have spent a lot of time at the workshop with projects so had the time of my life, finally a wanna be mechanic enjoying our passion for these cars. So some progress on my Thing with a completed rolling chassis ready to drive motor brand new a running well. Got the Thing lowered to my liking with smart car tyres on the front. Still want it a bit lower but fine for now.

Now the real hard work starts on one very rotten body.
This will not be a show car but a driver.
Will keep you posted.
Stay strong

Ok so whats interesting about this 182 is the colour.
The body on this 182 is a mess. Its been patched with various materials and every fastner you can think of.
I will post more as we strip it down to bare metal but with half already stripped its scary
So below I have attached the original paint colour which I can only assume is military? Any help here would be appreciated.
Whilst we know they made white/yellow/orange/blue/red/green this is not yellow but a sand colour.
So Ian has mentioned SADF used them so could it be one of these, or Kenya also used them.
Impossible to find any history but any help appreciated.

I am not so familiar with them, but found this:
https://www.thesamba.com/vw/forum/viewt ... highlight=

Wonder if the 182 and 181's was the same colour options?
Mine was L319 Olive / Top cover Olive

Here are some info on the certificate of some of the Extras/Options:

Yuslike my ding is vrot
27bf24c7-6842-484e-9cc1-7eea97186258.JPG
And this is the good side :zhelp:

So sanding the whole ding back to steel then clear coat with a steam punk twist, copper rivets etc.
Just too much work and money required to bring my ding back to reality. Also having fun so sorry to the purists.
Every panel is bad, and every fender should be bolted on but has been glued, riveted , fibreglassed you name it
Even found a complete ND number plate inside the fender so this was butchered on home soil
Will keep you posted more fun ahead.

Sorry to hear the body is so bad

But I am sure you will still make some thing enjoyable out of it.

Good luck with the build.
