Front wheel drive ?

To be able to make this project work, the only way it will work is to have FWD. So here is a clue

You like this one hey Paul... But for personal heath, playing with carbs by means of a grinder, during driving, is highly unsafe.

So part of the beetle body would also be used.
Staying Aircooled is so much nicer.
Do'nt assume anything- (While doing fault-finding).

Parts list also mentions: "type 4 gearbox". Wich have hypoid offset, so diff cannot be flipped for reverse rotation. (And engine too long to fit forwards under beetle bonnet?)
Meaning engine still facing backwards, although mounted in front.
Maybe something like this?

Or this:

Although "Mc Fearsome" struts upper may interfere with seats.
