Had no problem fitting the ear box to the bay, when fitting the type 4 2lt motor.

If you leave the front gearbox mounts loose, you will be amassed how much forward/backward movement you do have to get the motor/gearbox combination in the right place.

You would not have had an issue fitting it to your bus as its a 1972 crossover with the bigger engine bay and adjustable rear engine bar. The earlier bus has no adjustment on the mustache bar, but i'm sure you would have taken care of that with an angle grinder.

@Haans. You must assess first what adapter plate you are using. That will space the engine even further back. If i recall the Golf motor conversion requires the longer bellhousing due to clutch constraints as well as modifying the input shaft. I suspect plenty butchering will be necessary to fit that motor into an early bay. Late bay's have bigger engine bays.

@Alan, you must also check the length of your input shaft. The shorter bellhousing requires the shorter shaft.

So I might also be lucky if I don't come right with a non ears bellhousing.
Will wait on Haans's call as I would prefer to have all original.

Hi Haans,
I still have some time, my Westy still needs to be sanded smooooth before painting and only after that will I fit engine and gearbox. No wait, I need to first fix my engine, it stopped abruptly after idling for a minute or so and is locked solid. No idea what that was about.
