1952 VW beetle project.

After many years storing and planning and saving, I decided that it is time. This car must return to it's former glory.

I bought this car in 2001 in Pretoria after a tip off. This was the previous owner's first car. He bought it in the late fifties and used it for a few years. When he bought his next car, he modified this 1952, probably trying to make a "Baja" before Baja bugs existed. He cut of the back end and made some other modifications, actually butchering the poor bug. In the end the car luckily ended up in the back of his garage. I say luckily, because there were a few not so lucky VW's standing outside, rusted to pieces and grass growing through them. Even a 911 amongst the "collection".

The owner's wife told me that every car they owned were still on the property as he did not want to sell anything. They were on the verge of retirement and needed to clean up the place and sell the house, and move to the coast.

To get the owner to sell me the 52 was another story. I visited him a few times driving with my 57 Oval. It did the trick as after quite some time he informed me that I can buy the car from him. It was one of the best days in my ACVW time.

After collecting the car I stored it in one of my garages, waiting for the right time to start the restoration.

Well, the time has come. Things are working out and I found a reputable company to help me to get this project done properly.

It is at the restoration shop for the necessary body work. They are spending a lot of time to do it right.

I'm having a great Christmas. 2017 is ending on a good note for me. I'm praying that 2018 will continue to be a good one as this car starts to take shape.

Thanks for the update. Just last week I was wondering
if it is still waiting in storage.

Looking forward to the build.

That looks good.

Do you know what the hole was used for below the indicator switch?

Thats for the after market Thermometer type fuel gauge that you could order as an extra.

Mine also has it, still have the face, but not working, as it was a cable type system.

There is a electronic look alike on the market but very expensive.

Maybe for birthday....

Good progress there Rudi, keep it coming, great to see another 52 come alive.. :D

Thanks for the comment Herman, I also didn't know. Should I close the hole? Or leave it? What is your recommendations Jaco and Herman?
