Mark's 1961 Ghia project

Hi guys

This would be the 3rd ghia that I have helped put on the road

My Sister's friend bought this ghia from another friend of mine after he got a '71 Ghia from his Brother-In-law. The car was pretty much 90% complete missing mostly the small bits and chrome trim all around.

When we got the car, we flatted it down and then sent it away for spray. While the car was away we sent my bumpers, aswell as his bumpers, door handles, bumper brackets and other bits away for chroming. We also sent the motor away to be sorted out.

It has now come back and we need to fit motor, fit new wiring loom, set brakes, send interior away, wait for the other chrome parts to come back then the fun part starts....assembling.

Here are some pics, hope you enjoy.

Its a chroming connection of a friend, he is extremely cheap.

For example: R850 for a ghia bumper with overiders, R100 per door handle.

Wow, that is cheap as far as chrome plating goes. What is the quality like? I am looking for a decent chrome plater (preferably CT area) to rechrome some parts on my '59 Ghia. Will he do work for others? If so, please PM his details.

Hi guys

Just thought I would share an update on this project.

The wiring harness we purchased was too short, so we had to modify. so all lights are working. Owner is not too fond of this, so he will aquire the rest of the harness that was missing.

The new master cylinder that came with the car was faulty, so next on the list is to purchase a new one.
Motor has been fitted and she is idling ok...needs some tuning.
We test drove it like 2 metres, but with no brakes or handbrake it is quite challenging.

If anyone knows of a Ghia specific wiper motor or a window rail please message me.

Regards
Roscoe

Thanks so much guys

Next Saturday she is booked in to finish off the front section of the wiring and replace master cylinder, then she will at least be able to drive around the block, waiting on rubber bits to arrive from the UK (its taking extremely long) so we can install the quarter window pillars. Then all glass will be added.

After a fender bender last year, my friend decided to totally change the colour of his Karmann Ghia.

Cogita, nice to see you around again. A sugestion..........if you have a sturdy hand with an angle grinder,...you know it's our favourate tool here in Eastern cape,..just ask Retrovan !!!

I've cut out the decklid to look like the '71 to '74 models...... and am not sorry I did. Engine compertment much cooler, and runs cooler as well. See sample attached
