1974 BEETLE 1600-DAISY

Post by GERHARD73 »

I have been a member of ACVWSA since 2013 and been drooling over your posts for years. Since I can remember my family has had one or other VW of sort.
I have been searching for an "unspoilt" beetle for years, at a reasonable price (can't tell you how many kilometers I have travelled and how many beetles I have viewed) We are huge VW fanatics and are proud owners of a 2010 2.0 TDI VW KOMBI, 2010 1.6 TDI VW POLO 6 and recently acquired a 1974 1600 VW BEETLE.
The question is, do one keep them as original as possible (exterior colour& interior trim) or paint them the colour of your choice???

THX Tony, when I was a kid I remember driving through Pretoria with my Dad and seeing very little else than BEETLES on and parked next to the road. There were literally thousands of them and as a kid I believed that they were build there.
For now, I will keep her standard. Not many out there anymore today that have not been hacked or modified yet.

Will start sorting the fuel system and cleaning her.

Gerhard73,

Tony was trying some reverse psychology on you here and you went the other way it seems..standard...LOL!! Nice try Tony...but I respect what you tried to do.....the dark side..the force is strong..

Nice Volksie....still old T reg plate on the front and at the back GP...hard transition for the previous owner to the gangster paradise. Like Tony said...what makes you happy...time will tell. Love and respect the Old they say... The Volksie has character in spades...may want to start form there.

Thanks for the pics..it is appreciated!!!

Good luck with the project, and yes, please keep the photos coming.
Ideally, if you could get rid of the yellow, then it wouldnt hurt my eyes as much ;-)

Gerhard,

Very tasteful and somewhat subtle, the VW Beetle from ACEWAGEN...

Enjoy your Project...and know...even though you are going to swear, cry and bust your knuckles...there is infinitive joy restoring the old Beetles.

Been there done a few...loved every minute of it!!!!

Regards,

Started today sorting out the fuel problem and see what' hiding under the hood. The wiring is a mess. I'll ask one of my Autolec friends to tidy that.
