Hope I'm not infringing any rules here, but thought these might be interesting to someone.
Maybe someone even knows where she is nowadays.
Found these photos on one of my hard drives and thought I'd share them. I sold her in 2003 and still am upset about it every time I think of it.

Wow man !!!
2003 is a long time ago, so I'm sure you won't be upsetting anyone - indeed I wonder if it is still here in ZA ??? Does anyone here on the forum know ?
Do you have any more photos, where did you find it, etc, etc - I also have a '56 ambo patiently awaiting some "TLC"

Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Re: My ex '56 Ambulance pictures
Jolas, long story.
Got it from my ex father in law who lived in Parys, after he saw my '74 Kombi that I had converted to a camper with a 3l Ford conversion. He knew I had a passion for VW Kombi's so gave it to me. As far as I know it used to be an Army Ambo but could not verify. Could also have been from anywhere else. Unfortunately when I received it, it already had a 12V system and a 1600 motor. All interior in the photos is all it had although it all was in very good condition.
I added safety belts, the small indicators under the headlights and fitted dual filament bulbs in the rear lights which I soldered to take wires for rear indicators, all to get it through RW.
I sold the car to a Justin that lived in Newcastle.
If I find more pictures I will post. Unfortunately this was all before I had a digital camera.

It has definitely left the country then.AlanH wrote:I sold the car to a Justin that lived in Newcastle.
Justin offered me a '56 "Kombi", many, many years ago. It's entirely possible that this is what was actually on offer.
I *may* still have a photo of it, somewhere; showing it in his warehouse, in significantly worse condition than seen here, unfortunately.

Re: My ex '56 Ambulance pictures
hahahaha...and guess what ..Justin from Newcastle turned out to be a big exporter of buses at the time ...( there are some posts on this forum related to that) so the chances are that the bus was exported is very real......nice bus though !!
i own a '57 ambulance that will be restored to my personal taste rather than original ( only because the original bits and pieces are extremely difficulty to find)
in hindsight ....if only we knew !!
