1976 1300 Beetle Project

Post by HermanH »

Hi Gents,

At long last I managed to get my hands on a beetle again. Car is home, registered and road worthy done.

Right now I just want to fix a couple things and enjoy driving the car.
First thing I did after getting home was remove the ugly, weird side mirror the previous owner fitted.
Next will be going over the electric's thoroughly and a proper service for the engine and giving the paint job a bit of a polish.

Then the modifications will start. I have on my list to do:
* Disc brakes
* Work on the stance
* New wheels
* New interior and dash
* New paint job / scheme (fixing rust patches etc)
* Rebuild / replace engine
* Rebuild gearbox
* Replace / rebuild

This will be a long term project, but looking forward to it....

Thank you guys, quite a struggle identifying the year model of the car. At this time I am thinking it's a 1976. Registration papers say that first year of registration is 1976. Just not sure how to decode the chassis number, because that makes it look like a 1972....

I managed to start on some of the work over the weekend, fighting for time with my other commitments.

I started by emptying and removing the fuel tank.

Last time that this car will have drum brakes in the front.

I then went on to remove the front beam and spent a couple of minutes cleaning it up a little.

I am having a select-a-drop fitted to the beam, then I will clean it up, and paint it nicely, ready to back in the car. I will also be converting to disc brakes in the front. Got most of the needed parts already.

Next steps will include moving stuff around in the garage to create space for all the body parts I need to start removing now.
