Has anybody done a cable to hydraulic clutch on a beetle?

What kit is the best?

I can't tell you what kit to use, I can tell you not to use EMPI. A buddy of mine had a hip replacement done that did not go well, he did not have much power in his left leg to press the clutch in his buggy. He had a crowd in Alberton fit the Empi kit from VS, not once but twice, it failed both times, seals popped. When I built his 1776cc I fitted a simple pulley system that made the clutch pedal supper light, needed no butchering and used the stock cable, pedal travel got less.

Thanks Rui. I forgot about the pulley system!! I had a twin plate clutch fitted Pierre told me yesterday that the pedal is super hard. Will look into the pulley system.

That is exactly the system I did, also removed the return spring from the fork arm.

How was the pedal travel after the conversion. How I understand it. After fitting the pulley it takes twice the distance of the pedal to move the fork arm the original distance is this correct? Where did you source your kit or parts that you used.

From what I remember the pedal still did the full travel but only picked up close to the top (like the last 20mm), it worked 100%. The pulley wheel I got from a buddy who builds sliding doors & gates, it had a bearing and spun smooth, about 60mm dia and 12mm wide. The pulley bracket I welded up from flat bar, the rod is a threaded rod to suit the stock wing nut, welded to the pulley bracket, the extended bolt on the tranny I had lying around, was used to fit ally tappet covers to a T1 engine, drilled a hole in it to take the cable.

speaking of which, I recently bought steel rollers for the bottom of my sliding gate, comes with bearings and a bracket similar to what you guys are talking about. Cost about R250

Need to reduce the heaviness of the clutch on my trike and this seems to be a brilliant idea.

I know it's an old thread but............

would a 50mm dia pulley be just as good. Finding a steel 60mm in the UK seems impossible.
