1969 bus - no name yet...

Hi.

I have mentioned before that I bought a 1969 bus in Krugersdorp. It was posted on this forum.

The bus was repainted in about 2010 inside and out. They did a desent job, but I cannot stop wondering what the original paint looks like under the blue... If the dashboard is anything to go by, it still looks good under there. One day I am going to remove the blue paint and have a look.

So whats wrong?
A lot of the small things inside the bus was never replaced after the repaint.
There is a small dent on the nose, driverside at the indicator
Small rust spots here and there
And a few other things
Needs door seals and windscreen seal

It drives well amd everything works except the sliding door.

Here are some pics of the bus the day we went to fetch it.

I fitted several small things inside the bus including original tail lights
The brake lights now work
Hazard switch knob replaced
Original rubber mat fitted
Made a working sliding door back roller mechanism from two broken ones
Replaced the home made bottom roller with original alu one - door not smooth yet but will hopefully get there .
New fuel and air filters fitted
Replaced one headlight - old one had around 1,5l water inside it and light was still working... Will replace the otherone as well
A fellow forum member donated some hubcaps. Thanks so much Nick. The bus looks so much better with the caps on

Need to get some door rubbers and a new roof lining. And the brakes still pull to the right....

Went for a long drive this afternoon. It was great! Only issue is the CO2 smell in the back of the van
I got the correct tinware this week - the one that sits over the gearbox at the back of the engine. Maybe that will help to sort out the smell?

Hi,

I got somrear bumper splash plates. They looked quite rough, surface rust and the one was bent. Now it looks better with some fresh black paint on.
I also painted the engine tinware that fits behind the engine over the gearbox.
Also cut some interior panels from hardboard, fitted retro front seatbelts,
Worked a bit on the roof rack
Replaced the numberplate light
Fixed the right rear indicator
Bumpers have been removed to fit splash plates at the back and replacing the middle section on the front -other one bent and i dont have the knowledge or tools to repair it, will have to paint it at some stage.

Im struggling with the wingnut on the clutch cable. It seems to be siezed to the threaded part of the cable abnd now i cannot adjust it...

Will load some pics tomorrow

Tonight I replaced the left rear brake pipe (not sure what it ia called) with a good second hand one. I have to bleed and set the brakes.
mynengine was sittingnat a slight angle so i started fiddeling around with a jack and wedging some stuff. I found that the PO used engine mountings from a different vehicle and that the left hand side one is actually broken. So after quite a struggle I replaced both - again with some good used ones.

I fitted the cubi hole door.

Al before. The photos will be poated later...
