hahaha, was discussing this today with another westy friend, we cannot agree or have a straight answer.
My tyres are stock 14" , i cannot rememeber exactly now, but at last guess it was 175.65.R14, they are stock non commercial tyres however. (YES TONYZ I KNOW)
@Bruce what tyres are you running?

will be changing the tyres after the wheels are redone to commercial load tyres. Rims will be painted Body colour, with the centre caps either staying Chrome, or painted.

I cant remember the size (think they are 185/70 14).....apparently they are commercial. Why is that necessary?

My tyres just look too small for the bus to me.

185R14 is the correct size tyre. This would work out to a 185/80R14 tyre. You have the Dunlop SP Endura which looks to me like a 185/80, not 185/70 tyre.

Commercial tyres are not compulsory, but they ensure limited sidewall flexing from a bus as well as high load index should you be loading your kombi on a regular basis. The commercial tyre (with a quality brand) also ensures exceptional mileage from a set.

Yup your bay is a beaut Bruce. Really enjoying your thread.

So as stated commercial tyres are more a safety precaution to ensure the tyre can carry the weight, more so with a westy interiors etc.

Have you considered lowering your bus Bruce? I think I might go with dropped spindles in the near future with a spline adjustment in the rear. This will make the tyres look more cosy. But I'm so keen for 15 empire 5s or brm's. But wifey like the wheel caps... Meh!

Thank you for the compliments and tyre info.

Bugspray sorry for hijacking your thread a little.....yes ive been considering dropping it but not too much. I spoke to bugger about fitting the adjusters when i dropped the bus off on Monday. Once the motor and gearbox are done i will decide if there is budget left :)

Are you keeping the original colour?
I like the empire 5's in silver......my wife also prefers the hubcaps though. :D

Strange, I was never even aware that busses don't fit in some garages. I considered my garage doors at home a normal size and all of mine (including Westy's) get in and out.

I think the incline to my garage door is the problem. A few extra mm and ok for the bays, but def not westy

Splits just clear the door ....

oh - and the poor high roof or Autovilla

jack away, there is always some useful infor that comes from it.
@Bruce - Colour We are going as close to the original Blue, but a bit more recent paint. NOT a flashy pearl or metallic but a Base coat Blue. the current lean is towards the Datsun GO/ Renault Clio Blue or the M4 Marina Blue. with an Ice white or similar roof.

@Don haha yeah i also have a small problem with the garage door ( Standard roller door) my Isuzu doesnt fit into the garage but the Westy jaaaast makes it in.

@ Everybody - like Donovan asked, What is the correct tyre size for the 14" Standard wheels? and what are you currently running and why?

also whats the options on larger wheels and offset (without complicating the explanation) for a stock height bus? and then with lowering it?
