I used the hinges that KCC made for the 550 Spyder which I had to modify slightly. That is a much better design than the flat hinges the guys used to fit. The doors are quite heavy and you don't want them to start sagging and damaging the paint work of the body. I wonder if the current guy (his name escapes me now) can still supply them. Otherwise you can copy mine. They are not that complicated.

I have priced the hinges and door locks from KCC/Universal Products (guys name is Garth) and found them to be a bit pricey, but I supose when you compare apples to apples.........

I took alot of pics of calookers spyder and ideas from google images as well as vwspyder.nl, Then i was told about McNaughtans and they have a few things that will work and look the part.

Will prob start on it again in Dec

I will take some pics of mine for you as well. Bottom line is make sure that you put sturdy hinges in there as you do not want to end up spending a packet on a nice spray job and then having the doors stuffing up the door sills for you. Good luck on your project.

At the moment I have single point injection which works fairly well with the turbo but limits output as the injector is running at its max capacity. The next step is definitely multipoint fi and I have already started sourcing the required bits. Last night some stuff I was storing fell off a cupboard and cracked the front wind deflector from top to bottom and damaged the paint even though it is under a cover. I thought I could cry. So now I need to have a new deflector made. I went through quite an effort to find someone who can (hopefully) help me. Will find out tomorrow. I still need to see what I can do about the paint as it is a base coat/clear coat. I'm even getting the moer in as I'm writing this but it will have to be fixed. I will take it to see what can be done as soon as I get a new wind deflector.

In the longer run I have a 82 mm Oettinger crank lined up but am now considering my options. I also have a type4 casing and some bits so I can either use the existing 1835 and take it op to 2180 CCs with a bigger turbo but it would be a pity to break up a practically new engine that I spent a lot of effort building (including balancing etc.) so the alternative is to sell the current engine as a complete running motor and build a large displacement type 4 engine with fi and turbo. I will see which way to go as soon as I have done my sums. Fortunately there is no rush.

Sorry to hear about the misfortune on that great looking car. Was trolling the forum when your post came in sorry bud car looked great and to have that happen wil make me debliksem in as well.

Sheet dude really sucks.
All my cars sleep outside and I want to do my nut if someone walks past them carrying something.
I will be spraying the car myself as well as building it so there is bit of money saved.

I would like to see the setup of the doors on your car as well as the door latches, the ones from Mcnaughtans look quite sturdy.

I plan to get a set at the end of the month.
