Re: Volksrod '64
Hi. Help in the roof chop? A friend of mine did the chop on my car. I can talk to him or put you online with him. In Pretoria. His price will probably be better than the next guy. It is a much bigger job than it looks, trust me on that one, and don't be surprised if people (if at all willing to do it) charge you in the region of 25K for a nice low chop. Mine is 6" and I have to say that it included the suicide doors. The lower the chop the harder it is to match the lines and of course more additional cuts then. I'd never discourage you to do it as the end result puts a smile on your face but just be aware that it is much more complicated than it looks, especially if the guy had not done it before. We did a lot of ( and I can recommend that) research before deciding on a specific chop. Good Luck.

Looking good Harry. Not many guys (me included) brave enough to attempt a roof chop.

Re: Volksrod '64
Thanks. Well when I saw one for the first time I decided there and then I want one. Now the word "want" is the important one here as that means $ all day long. But then if you bear in mind that you'll have a practically brand new car that's completely unique you tend to be a bit braver. LOL. And if you think about it, it's really only 3 brave moves, the chop, the suicide doors and the "32 suspension. The rest is easy.

I like how you made all the lines "flow" an not just chop of the front and rear.If I ever build a volksrod this is what I intend to do.Good job!

Re: Volksrod '64
Thanks. The next step would be to start looking for window options as at least the rear one might be a bit of a challenge. Not yet sure what to do there.Kaptein wrote:I like how you made all the lines "flow" an not just chop of the front and rear.If I ever build a volksrod this is what I intend to do.Good job!

Re: Volksrod '64
Good luck - hope you find something that works.
When I do a roof chop, planning the glass (if curved) is where I start. Busy with one right now where I am working on cutting down a late model windscreen (not so simple). Of course you could use polycarbonate or something but IMO that is a cop-out for a car that will see road use..

Re: Volksrod '64
Yip, probably should have done that as well. I did hear of a guy in Pta that can do it. Will c what he says and I also heard of type of new safety glass with extreme flexibility. All avenues to explore and yes, also hope I get something.
