Fleetline (and "Brasilia") VIN plate project...

Post by Merlin »

Hi all,

I am busy decoding Fleetline VIN plates and will publish my findings once done. If you have photos of yours, or other Fleetline VIN plates and wouldn't mind sharing them with me for the registry, I'd really appreciate it.
  • Model, i.e.: Kombi, Panel or Pickup?
  • Original colours? Body/Roof/Roof-to-beltline/Cab
  • Close-up photo of the upholstery, showing the grain of the upholstery
  • If your bus has its original rims, their datestamps
  • Rear hatch sticker: black or metallic?
  • If Kombi, corner window markings
  • Does your Fleetline have a sprung or locking fuel flap :?:
Your VIN plate is riveted to the bulkhead, between the B-pillar and the driver's seat.

PLATE SAMPLE:

Please don't post your photos publicly; PM or email them.

The more photos of your bus in original state, the better. :)

Thanks.

Kind regards,

Nic

Nartjie orange panel, if my memory serves, the bus had the waist line and roof white. The ''V'' was orange as well as the section above the waist line, seats are brown material,...almost like a course velvet. I believe they are original. il post a pic sometime.....and the rims are not the ones my bus came with. so no help there im afraid.

Thanks. :)

Dash colour?

A close-up photo of the upholstery material, when you can, would be great; and the VIN plate, please.

Did your bus have the sticker on the back when you bought it? If so, black or metallic?

Brasilia owners, your VIN plates (and info') are welcomed too. I'm told that they follow the same coding convention. :)

Do any of you have a sticker like this on your Fleetline bulkhead, or other '70s VW?

Any idea what it is?

It reads 'card' and '236'.

It's not a model designation.

Thanks.

Nope. All the stickers were ripped off by the PO. But I do have a tag riveted to the side of the ventilation channel, on the drivers side. But its been painted over.

That's the manufacturer's plate, listing place of assembly, weights, etc.. It is of no use to me for the decoding project, but thanks nonetheless. :)
