1973 Bug Restoration/modification

Post by eahmod »

My son recently purchased a 1973 1600 twinport, his first vehicle with his savings a wopping R7000. Being a VW fan myself and having owned a 68 and 70 Beetle, a 2.1 Microbus, 2.5 Caravelle, Jetta 2 and 3 Jetta 4's I was quite happy happy that the bug bit again. At least know Ill know where he is at night somewhere safe under his car. We have started a complete body off restoration, The body was badly rusted and the pan was unsalvageble, thanks to Benny we sourced a complete pan. To the horror of many purists, myself included, he decided to modify the 73 taking it back to a split oval (complete withthe Fiberglass Split), 4 months later and 30000 Rand down, we still battling to see the end of the tunnel. Attached are some pics.

Got a set of chrome spacers and hingers, plan to offset the engin lid by 8cm, this should compensate for the lack in vents.

Awesome colour choices, both inside and out! Have you got other plans for the wheels or are you staying with what's on there currently?
Decide where you stand ... then stand there!

Thanks, havent decided yet, will probebly go for a set of 15" narrow and wides 4 x 100 pcd, currently Ive got the standard 15' whites in the back and 13" golf 1 steels in the front. the other option is to remain with the current setup and use full crome hubcaps standard in the front 13" and deep dished in the back 15".
Open to suggestions and ideas. :zhelp:
