Interesting, wonder what such a conversion would cost?

Problem is that, while used Porsche parts are abundant and cheap in the US, they are scarce and expensive in this country. The easiest acvw to convert to Porsche transmission is the 411/412 series. This is because the shift shaft is more or less in the same position. (At the bottom).

Another option for local type 1/ type 3 applications would be the Berg 5-speed conversion, as this can be done while retaining the swing axle suspension.

Any one of them will cost you more than you want to spend
A Mainshaft is R20K now a Gene Berg 5 will easy cost you R70K

excluding the special shifter and the body modifications....
dont forget, the berg kit puts 5th gear ahead of reverse, i.e. next to 1st
