Dear Friends,
I would like to present an innovative crank shaft pulley made of cast nylon without groove, which allows a belt change in 5 seconds without tool.
Please provide me with your opinions.
Best aircooled wishes

nice idea... I would just be worried about the lack of torque transmission from the lack of contact area. A flat belt would probably work better, with a matching top pulley. And no, I am not talking about a serpentine belt.

I agree Tony , and changing the top pulley to a "flat" type it would then need some kind of tensioner ,which will turn it into a serpentine kit not ?

Many thanks for your comments.
For understanding the system you have to deal with the physical law of the belt friction: with similar friction coefficients at both pulleys the greater pulley will see no sliding. Therefore you actually do not need a groove at the greater pulley. When producing v-belt pulley systems until now it was normal to take grooved pulleys.
You need a certain energy for bringing the belt out of the groove. This means a belt running on an ungrooved pulley is consuming less energy than a belt running on a grooved pulley.
Overall the system needs less energy, is easier to produce and enables a fast belt change without any tool.
Greetings
Ludwig

Might work on a stock motor thas sees little acceleration.
A motor with that pulley spining up fast to high RPM....... you will be fitting the belt in 5 seconds a lot more than expected as it will fly off all the time.

Hello calooker,
it is my hobby to convince guys with such an overwhelming self confidence like you have.
We make a deal: I send you a kit for your engine and you test it. If you are right so you can continue with your comments.
If I am right, please tell it to the Beetle Community in South Africa. Please provide me with your address and tell me whether your engine has a DC or an AC Generator.
Best wishes

I don't even understand the point...

Nor do I. It takes me 5 minutes to fit a belt every 5-4 years... I have four running ACVWs, that's 20 minutes, or 4 minutes per year... I can save 4 seconds per year. How much would that saving cost me?

What about this method

No cost just a screw driver

At least no tool is needed , How much would it go for? What mods are needed to change the pulleys ?

Hello Jonno,
I sell the kit at my online shop "
www.syngear.co.uk/online shop" for 39 Euro + 7,50 Euro for shipping.
The kit includes the cast nylon pulley with a steel flange and two belts.
The idea for this system came per accident when testing the Syngear Steel Belt. A video of this system is presented at [youtube]
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bVhL30Z9Fes[youtube].
Many thanks for your interest. Don't hesitate to ask for more details.
Best wishes

Hi Ludwig
Willing to take you up on the offer.
I will fit it to my SC bay which is driven like I stole it, with a 1956cc T1 it redlines to 6400 rpm in the blink of an eye, if this system survives the way I drive it then it should survive anywhere.
Let me know.

Dear Friends,
calooker will get a kit.
It will take some weeks for shipping from Germany to South Africa.
But we will see.
Best wishes

Dear Friends,
as calooker is obviously not willing to provide me his address for shipping a disc, I would like to ask anybody else who is seriously interested in testing it.
An email is welcome to "
engineering@synchroflat.com".
Best aircooled greetings
