Sambas in South Africa are good for only 2 things: showing off and sunburn.

Old cars have a special smell when you open the door, I can almost get that smell just from looking at this picture

Yes you right it has unique old car smell. I stripped the interior as well. There is a bit of rust under the drivers and passengers feet. I want to respray it the original colour. The problem is that the kombi has 2 colours over the original colour. The dark blue paint has cracked right through into the torquoise paint. Now I needed to flat the whole kombi down to its original colour. I started out using 600 grit water paper and currently using 150 water paper. Its very time consuming and progress is slow. I even tried getting someone to help (casual labour)with the flatting but he only lasted a half a day ,so I ended up all by myself again. i will post more pics as I progress.

Its horrible when you actually have to work for your money... especially if the boss is always there.
Alas, I digress

Good luck with the project!

Hi guys that blond is the misses, she and the other 2 junior misses only helped flatting on the 1st day! the other flatting was all done by me, myself and I. I also managed to save another late model panelvan from being put on the scrap yard owners roof for advertising! I ask him first what was his plans with the van so he said what his plans were as mentioned above. So as i needed some parts he said i could take the few parts i needed, but the van was standing in someone else yard, with a MOERSE rottweiler/boerboel, and after being there a few times he had not yet arranged for the van to be brought to his yard, me being on his case , i made a suggestions to sell the whole van and he agreed (after a few minutes of thinking though!) The body is vrot inside is bare at the back (cargo section) BUT the screen is there front and rear suspension, all brake pipes, hand brake cables etc ,motor ,gearbox so basically complete ! rims and all 4 hubcaps as well. missing is starter, carb, crank pulley and bolt and keys and indicator stalk. front indicator lenses, rear tail light lenses and rf headlamp smashed by theses effing tik koppe :  the guys says he thinks motor has bearing knock.
