Pine, should have taken the okes number and gave it to me, but I read somewhere that you seriously like them as well and they would have been in your garage before I could even open mine. I collect these like other people collect smarties. They are my favourite ACVW wheel by a long shot.

It is sad to see a 70's beetle in the middle of a parking lot with Sprintstars on and the owner most probably not even knowing they are collectable?

Are you serious? Where should he park his daily driver? In the trees? :o
I know the owner and he cherishes the wheels on his daily driver as much as he cherishes his car. We the people from Klerksdorp dont like it when you refer to us as ignorant :(
I do not mean this as a personal attack but making statements like these will only anger me when I ride my bug (rat look) on og paint sprintstars and I park where I like

IMPI, think you took it the wrong way there. Sorry did not mean to offend you, your friend or Klerksdorp.I do not think you are ignorant at all so do not take it personal. I just see this happen often. I bought a set of Sprintstars of a 76 beetle for R800-00 and the person did not even know their value. The guy was selling the whole 70 's beetle for R800-00 and I said he could keep the rest. Have way to much scrap on my yard already.

As to parking in the middle of the parking lot, hey meant the car is just standing there with those Sprints on! Will be at the 2012 Cars in the Park and you will see I am actually just a nice helpful guy. Will be there with Eddy Rust so come by and have a chat.

I would rather see these wheels on a car in use than piling up in some hoarder/collectors garage

Beetlepower, I do not hoard as such, I collect(I think) and restore them to as new condition. They are actually displayed in my garage and they do get used when I do not want BRM's or Radars on the cars I have. I would really have wanted to put a set on every vw I own, but some people(Jakaranda beetle klub,Oom Jan Swart and Eddy Rust) will kick my butt when I turn up at the shows with Sprints on a 51 Split or 57 Oval that has only 48000 miles for new-LOL!!!! I do share your enthusiasm for the brand of wheel though.

Mince, that is the thing about collecting, I "collect not to sell". Sorry jong, got the illness really bad and will not be selling any of those in the near future. I see Beetlepower's point of having too many and them not getting used often. They are fairly rare as you know already and do not come cheap as most of the people selling the rims, caught on the last few years due to programs like American Pickers etc. Thanks for the enquiry.

Cheers and thanks for the chat,

That is a shame, for me. Cool man.

When you come across another set, please share with me.

Mince, will let you know if I come across a decent set of Sprints again. You know of course that the 4.5" Sprints are hens teeth? I have mostly come across the 5.5's and if you are ok with this I will find you a set in my travels. Sad what I had to do in the past. I used the 4" vw beetle solids hoop and welded them to the sprintstar inner and create my own 4". These days the Sprints have become sought after and I just do not do this anymore. My buddy(Muderick) will kick my butt if I try anyway. The stance and look is everything. I mostly run 145-65-15's in front on my 4.5" Sprints and 165/80/15 in the rear on 5.5" Sprints for most of my Cal look vehicles. Ooh those 145/65/15's are pricey, but looks just right! I am in the process of getting 2 Firestone F70 Wide Ovals form the States for my 63 Ragtop. Had to see the Bank manager(The missus) for those-LOL!!! No birthday or Chirstmas gifts for me for the next 7 years.

Regards,

Pierre-51Splitfanatic

PS: My work mail is if you want to talk off-line and I can aslo sent you some pics of my VW's and you could share yours etc. :hangloose:

You can buy good quality reproduction Sprintstars and widen/narrow them as your heart desires...

Blitzkrieg, yep this is true, but repro is not retro-LOL!!! I see the point however and I will feel better about not butchering a set of OG Sprints. BBT in the Netherlands comes closet with repro Sprintstar wheels I feel, but they are off their rocker expensive. They can be ordered in any configuration however and there will be no need to climb the scrap heaps of South Africa to get an OG set. What am I saying, i like climbing the scrap heaps and walking around peoples back yards......Eish!!
