Long ago and not so far away :)

Post by IMPI »

One of the things that kept me going whilst in the Army back in 84-85 was the evenings spent planning my ultimate and probably a first for beetle people in SA at the time I recently saw the car again and its still not finished although it needs very little work. Here follows a small blast from the past
Bought a 63 from a scrapyard for R80 (I only got paid about R250 a month back then

Found some other fenders as well as a decklid that was driven over by the scrapyards truck The oval section was found in a velt near Orkney and was only that nothing else

I still had hair back then (you should see what 21 years of marriage has done to my hair
started welding everything in (I learnt gaswellding on that car)

Decided 75mm was the right amount

Finally some primer

I still have the Plate......

My plans called for a flip front fitted it and removed it the fiber work was so crap (got it from The old volkspares)

The dash was cut from the tailgate of a 20m Ford station wagon

I then met my future wife..... no more interest in cars and no more money either I sold it to a friend who sold it to the current owner
I had the opportunity to take some photos of the car now And I still like it...... Sarel eat your heart out Dude :hangloose:

One of those that got away as they say
By the way the engine of choice then was also a type 4 with a Volkspares centermount fan shroud, I sold that as well

Who cares how it's done in California?

It turned out nicely - Great job.... :hangloose:
I wish I could get some projects back that I had to part with in the past, but I'm sure there are a lot of us out there feeling the same...
