Fleetline with Zoom complete strip down

Post by Bugger »

Thought I will do a short thread of the 15 window Fleetline that I am fitting a 13Bt Mazda Rotary motor in

This bus was bought By Mike a Guy I met at the Rand Easter Show when We were doing marketing for the Logo day
When He bought it a Golf motor was already fitted to the Bus but what a :bn: job

The bus was at a custom shop and he was not happy with some of the progress
A Set of Wilwood brake kit was fitted but not the Ideal way it was 5x205 Pcd with Adapters to 4x100 that brought the front wheels outwards allot so not much room for lowering the Bus
The back the bus was dropped slightly and the front the Guys removed torsion-bars to lower it slightly
This is how I got the Bus
I did a Run or 2 with the bus while I was getting some of the Ducks in a row to do some lowering on the Bus with the Straight Axle conversion I was Buzy with

In the meantime Mike wanted me to build him a 2L 16V Turbo Golf motor but Talked him out of it and rather a Rotary :D One of my Favorites.
The straight Axle kit took a while longer as planned But I finally got the First set build and on This bus so I can have wheel alignment checked and all relevant spacing clearance between the Adjusters and the Rims and Tyres

I have Built one of my Stage 1 Transmissions for the Fleetline that I have fitted with the Straight Axle conversion to handel all the power
The motor was in a Friends Bug that had a slight mishap I bought the motor and we stripped it and fitted new 3mm seals as the Rotors was machined to take 3mm seals and the motor was Ported already before :D so all it needed was a upgrade Turbo which I also had waiting for the project to take speed

I have so far Fitted the Stage 1 trans with Straight Axle kit . and the Motor and the Radiator at the Bottom of the Bus in between the Chassis Legs which was no easy Task
Bought Today the Charge Cooler
Charge cooler Reservoir tank
EFI COmputer for Managing the Fuel and Spark
16" Flat fan on the Radiator
Surge tank for fuel
EFI Pump and surge tank pump

Will load some pics as I did take some but not down loaded yet

Nice looking bus, :hangloose:

but I would prefer an ABF turbo engine over a rotary anyday.

But it's an exciting death trap. My death trap only does 100km/h on a slight downhill if I shave my legs and tuck my hair and ears under a swimming cap.

Golf Mad a Good Rotary is so much more fun than a Golf turbo Horses for Courses

The pics shown is still with the slight ly lowed suspension with Reduction Gearboxes
I have fitted the Straight axle kit and this bus is seriously low and the front will also be done

The handling of the bus will also be sorted so it can do the nessesary Highway stuff with ease no jumpy steering

I have recieved a Brand new Steering shaft Box from Brazil and all the Front suspension trailing arms
So moet nie worry this one will kick ASS

With Decent Brakes to start with this bus is getting the Full Package Handling and all
DSC05094 (Medium).JPG
This is a slight modified version of the kit used on the Beetles on the Back here it gives more clearance for the Rim to go out closer to the Fender side to make the back wheel distance wider
DSC05011 (Medium).JPG
This is a STD Bus Spring plate
DSC05013 (Medium).JPG
Here my Adjustable Straight Axle kit is fitted and look how nice it works out
This gives you a immediate 2.5" drop from RGB`s
DSC05017 (Medium).JPG
Here you can see the cut outs I have made Extra on the Moving Spring blade for an extra 10mm travel past the Stoppers top and bottom
And the Splinning that was done on the Stationary spring plate was done Excellent just as tight as the Original spring plates so there is no Excessive Movement to weare the Splines out
All that is needed now here is what is called the Boomerang plates that space the Cap out 5mm with the Extra 5mm gained from the 2 spring plates the spacer plate needs to be fitted to keep all the std rubber grommets
DSC05127 (Medium).JPG
As mentioned no hassles changing a tyre next to the road any more thanks to the Adjustable spring plate that moves so far down

The Business end of things

The owner took it to his own Panel beater and had it sandblasted against my Advice and now the panel beater has his work cut out with many hours of panel beating
