We left last week Thursday with a trailer which we rented in Cape Town because no-one in Joburg could help us with a one-way deal. We headed up to Joburg via Kimberley and encountered some of the worst roadworks I have ever been through. We got to Joburg that evening after 16 hours on the road.
Early Friday morning we bulleted through to Groblersdal where we met up with the seller and loaded the van up. We stopped at the Loskop Dam to take a picture and it was at this point that I sommer decided to pop down to Natal to visit my folks. We took the route via Ermelo and some of the worst roadworks I have ever been through (deja vue?). The very friendly policeman gave me a ticket for R750.00 for driving a tad too fast in his town and I bit the inside of my cheeks so hard trying not to swear at him that I still have blood blisters in my mouth. We arrived safely in Amanzimtoti late on Friday night.
Saturday we stayed in Toti for the day and then left again Sunday morning. We drove as far as Beaufort West where we stayed at the Oasis Hotel. The barman, bless his soul, opened the pub for us 'op die heilige Sondag' and after a doppie or two (or was it three

This morning we woke up to find that the whole of Beaufort West was snowed under. That was a really cool suprise in more ways than one. We got on the road early and drove through a snow blizzard to Lainsburg where we had a nice healthy Wimpy breakfast and the best coffee in the world. We encountered a particularly nasty accident with a bus and two trucks and I believe that the N1 was later closed due to the severe snowstorm which hit town just after we left.
We dropped the van off at the warehouse where she will now stay till I am ready to start the stripping. There is quite a lot of rust on this one and we are going to need a lot of panels and parts but despite that it is still a fairly straight vehicle. Looking forward to getting this one done but it's going to take a looooooong time.
