Aircooled VW South Africa

As you may know I managed to snag this NC reg '75 Wide loadbed splittie. I made a detour to Krugersdorp on my way to the 2011 KKK to have a look and bought it on the spot. Still awaiting delivery, pictures will follow soon.

sarel where on the fleetline is this birth plate situated? id it behind the left seat rivet on the bulkhead?

I got the wide bed for my fleetline and going to use it but if you cant get hold of the wide bead you can allways come and measure mine up and make up your own.
If you dont have it on then the rear is to light and when driving in a scew uneven terrain - one of the rear wheels will lift of the ground

Mine do have its wide bed and its in pretty good condition, it was just not fitted at the time of the picture. It is complete with its snorkel. That plate is behind the driver on the RH side. Its in plain view, not even behind the seat. Cannot even remember about the cosmetics, think it had the doorpanels still in.

Convert it to German Spec and dispose of that wide loadbed

blitzkrieg, then the tail is to light to push the heavy cab. unless you put a v 6 or v 8 convertion in. I wont cause I love the sound of the aircooled boxer engine. might con sidder a 2.2L aircooled with twin carbs and 120 cam.

So what about all of the thousands of German spec S/Cs that didn't have the wide loadbed??!

Sounds like an urban legend to me

it can be that the widebed got a stiffer rear suspention to accommodate for the extra load. It can take over 700kg think 778k according to the user manual

Congrats again Sarel. What ever you decide to do, I'm sure you will keep the wide bed safe, Fleetline single cabs with good condition wide beds are, well, like any other split SC pretty rare in SA now. Let us know if you want to part with it, but, it would be a pity to separate the two. I love them for their "quirkiness". The VIN plate looks like it's been changed at some stage in the past. Great that you still have the "snorkel".
My Fleetline SC has been patiently waiting for 7 years, it is complete,but a major project.

You know that the pickup on the picture started it's life as a kombi... naa, keep it close to original, Fleetline's are cool and Fleetline SC widebed are extremly cool!

Yes, and the owners that drive mad(eg new 4x4/toyota rav cars)that takes changes , wont do it if you have your widebed on. I experinced it. They are so affraid to scratch their car cause your wide bed is easy 100-120mm per side wider than the rest of the bus. and the wide bed is extreme tough. thats one of the many reasons why I Like this type of fleetline.
