Thank's I am indeed very proud of her, she's so clean, the old man never even smoked inse her cab.Only problem I have is her front brakes locking up but I'm sure the master is building up. Might need a good clean or replacement.Other than that I'm sure I can take her on a trip to Cape Town with no hassles.
Yup, she has a 1600 TP engine and what amazed me was the condition of all the pipes and rubbers, still have the old crimp on clamps on, rust I found is mainly on the load body where the seams come together.
Will post more pic's later.

And the gearbox is it IRS or RGB?
You can try vw trend - I've used them to rebond my front brake shoes then just get new seals from media hydraulics - the master and wheel cylinders and maybie new flexi pipes. then your brakes should be sorted

Not sure what g/box I have, how would I distuingish and what's the difference?
I can maybe get a complete m/cylinder from VW Trend-just have to take him a sample, will try Media for the rest of the rubbers and seals, thx's.

If you have cv's - boots on the gearbox and wheal side then its IRS
for the RGB thers only one boot on the GB side

both have there pros and cons.
Irs is good like better suspention. You have a final of 1:1
Where rgb the work harder but you have more torque. And you the cruise 80 instead of 110 and ride height is higher
This is what i know.
Bugger can give more correct info

VWs that came out with RGBs were Splitties, WWII Kubelwagens (etc), T181/2 Things, Country Buggy, and the Bay-Splitty-Brazilia. There might be a few other obscure ACVW, but that's basically it.
The Baywindow buses came out with IRS suspension and CV joints (or simply universal joints?).
HR posted some pics on his Bay-Splitty-Brazilia which has IRS suspension with universal joints (not CV joints) and RGBs. Trust the Brazilians... I don't know if this IRS-RGB combination was applied anywhere else, newer T181's perhaps?
RGBs all have a ratio of around 1.25:1. They vary a little. They come with fine gears and coarse gears. I have come across 3 different gear sets so far.
The early ones come with output shafts which take 36mm castle nuts and are the same as a Beetle, same wheel bearings, seals, and backing plates. I think the drums were the same initially, but beetle drums required a little (splined) spacer between the drum and the castle nut when fitting to a bus. Later the drums were wider (Type 3?). I'm not so confident on the drums though. I'm sure the Fig can enlighten us. I would like to know for sure.
Later Type 1c buses came with the 1500cc engine, longer gearbox and the bigger RGB output shafts which take a 46mm castle nut, where the wheel bearings are all the same except the outer drive shaft one and the seals are different. Backing plates are also different.
Then came the bay-windows - someone else knows about them, not me...
That was about the trend...
