Hi, a new one for the Projects Forum ................
I'm busy on this Fleetline single cab at the moment, the previous owner closed up the front indicator and tail light
mounting areas, and I'm going to leave it like this. She came without the wide bed, and the original flooring section on the
load box is long gone and replaced with a 4 mm piece of sheet metal.
This truck will be working for me in more ways than one. I've decided to convert it into what a sheep farmer may have done
back in the day. It has to be a practical farm bakkie. A blacksmith friend of mine is making up hinges, latches, etc. for wooden dropgates.
I've finished with the wiring, the loom inside the engine compartment was "gone" and the under the dash was a shambles.
The "to do" list is long, but the end result must be a useful truck, and hopefully we are on the right track with the new dropgates. The purist will want to shoot me down, and I appreciate and understand this, but I do have valid reasons for what I'm doing with this pick-up. But more about that later.

So many cool things in this thread. A SC being used for what is was made for, a blacksmith still plying his trade in our modern - import from china age, and you have to appreciate the irony in him having a surname like Hamersma , AND a good looking type 3 in the background.

Love the idea of wooden gates, very damn cool. Also really like the barn door style lights at the back, i'm tempted now to do this to mine.

Daniel, shot bru, but please think carefully about hacking out your tail lights. The previous owner did this one carefully and can
easily be put back to original, the lights are obviously rare and expensive (mine are plastic repros I think). I have plenty of respect for the dudes who keep things original but also have the same respect for the guys who resurrect wrecks from the scrapyard and do their own thing with them.

How is the condition of the engine? and gearbox?

No sign of slipping out of any gear?

Whats the odo as far as you know?

Hi Louis, engine needs work, running but carb needs attention. Also busy with exhaust issues at the moment. The gearbox
was worked on apparently, but is jumping out of reverse, also "whines" in 2nd and reverse.
The SC did'nt come with the wide-bed when I bought it, although I do have one for another project.
Have balanced the dropgates onto the load bed, will kind of look like this .................

Loving the dropsides, and Dsan, now that you mention it. Those early style lights just look right.

Would look equally cool on your SC, I say go for it.

Ja the timber is good old SA Pine (other stuff is flippen expensive), we made up our own sealer using boiled linseed oil,
creosote (because it smells soooooo lekker), and thinners. Such a cheap and effective alternative, wood sealers are also
hellishly expensive. The amount of creosote used was so minimal, and the resulting colour is just perfect I think. The idea
is that it must'nt look too "new". I think it works, I want to play around with a piece of canvass or tarpaulin, and two or three
hoops and see what the result is. But first, she must get on the road !

This is what I've done a while back... very similar but not completely removable

I really do like that, honestly!

Whilst I'd most likely stick to only having 2 strips in height, it looks so organic that it works well.
