TOY 356 NW

Post by IMPI »

I can only blame Flat four fan, Baron, my dad, my Uncle, my teachers the forum etc etc.
It started with me riding in a doorless 356 b (my uncle was rebuilding the thing in 1968) i was still very small and could stand on the door jamb/sil and hanged onto the roof. Later the same uncle gave me a holiday job when i was in std 9 and it was my work to reassemble a 58 356 a
That did it: I was hooked fast forward to 5 years ago and my 40th birthday I decided it was time to get one. I couldnt afford it and eventually settled for a 924 and later the 914.
I drove Garys speedster and liked it a lot but wind in the hair is really not my thing. I then saw Replicars website and they hinted about a coupe. I visited them and although far from finished I thought that I will do this and bought the first body. It is not finished and still will need lots of work but we will get there. the roof was moulded from an original A and even has evidence of dents and crazed paint hidden in the gellcoat proof that you can copy any thing. I want to complete this in an authentic style and thus need quite a few original 356 bits. hint hint. currently the roof is single skinned and I need to ad reinforcement as well as all the inside mouldings. the rear seat area is all wrong and will need work.

I got these for a very good price as they were in MPH

When I was still 911 body hunting Is aw the original of your cars mould , when Johan was still shaping it and for a short while I had some doubts whether I should not go 356.
Well now its in good you have the first one and we all are waiting.
So now another slow down on the beetle project which you owe us as well.

Cheers and good luck

Very cool dude!
I see what you mean about the rear interior, wrong wrong wrong. Love those guages, I can't believe you got them for that price, not fair :(

Looking at those pics, I see there are no window pillars/frames on the doors. They obviously just used speedster doors but I would have thought that they at least would have moulded the pillars!
I remember Eugene (when it was still Kit Car Center) used to say that their Speedster bodies were so accurate that you could actually interchange the doors with original 356 doors (which having worked on a KCC/Venom replica for so long, I seriously doubt). It would be interesting to see if you could 'fit' a pair of original Coupe doors. Sourcing them will be easier than modifying replica speedster doors and will be a good deal stronger. Another bonus will be the extra details in the door jams that will keep admirers guessing as to the origin of the car (replica/original.)

Anyway, all the best. Give me a call if there is anything I can help with.

Regards

I was also looking at the doors thinking that there is going to be a lot of work needed on those to get them upto spec, there are no frames, and also no slots for glass. Nothing is impossible though. I can't wait to see this car in the flesh.
