Hi guys

I want to pop a 1900 waterpumper into a beetle. What do I need to look out for

Look out for a flywheel and clutch from an 1800 or 1700 type 4 kombi engine. Wasserboxer 1900 and 2.1 engine bolts straight to gearbox, no adapter plate needed.

early 1900 WBX had a 215mm flywheel that will bolt into the beetle.

Hi there,so I finally got round to start my conversion but ran intoi trouble. Seems the flywheel clutch assembly I got is from a 2l type 4. Slines on the clutchplate align fine but after I bolted the engine to the beetle box,the engine do not turn at all. I measured the flywheel beforehand and it measured 228 mm.on the ringgear. Same as the beetle although the beetle has a mush smaller clutch and pressure plate. Now I have to take out the engine again. As this is my son's first car and he is very eager to drive it, I amn losing face in the eyes of my kid and that hurts like hell. Can anybody rescue me out of this situation? Please please pretty pllease!

Slack off the four bolts holding the engine to the gbox until you can turn the engine with a spanner on the crankpulley. It will leave some marks in the belhousing so that you can see where you need to clearance the bellhousing. It shouldn't much. I only had to take a little bit out. Good luck!

At last got it in and started.Now I need to fit the radiator and water pipes. Should be running very soon!

Okay so the hit the fan again. Motor runs good when cold but after a 5km drive it starts overheating and smoking a lot. It also backfires through the carb and don't have power. I suspect worn rings. Could it be that it is running too lean as I removed the choke set-up on the carb completely.I am running it with the og pierreburg carb and don't see any mixture adjusting screws. Please help.

where have you put the radiator?
Doesnt help having the radiator in the open air, it needs to be in a position where air can move through it. If air doesnt move through it, it wont cool, no matter how much in the open it is - hense why so many V6 conversions dont work in a kombi with the radiator bolted to the front......

Exactly. Just putting it in the air doesnt mean air will rush through it.
Look at all those people that have mounted radiators in the front of a kombi, 5cm from the body.
If you were an air molecule, why would you want to go through the radiator, then onto the body and then around the body, when you could avoid the radiator and just go around the body. Remember also, it is more difficult for air to go through a radiator than to go around it, so you have to make the air want to go through.

This is much easier to describe in person as I cant find pictures to demonstrate.... quizz me on it next time you see me

OK I seem to understand as my radiator is futher away than 5 cm on the buggy.

I have installed the radiator in the sparewheel well. Cut the area behind it away (below the tank),and fitted a cooling fan from a mk1 golf. For air inlet I have cut a huge hole in the lower valance and the bonnet. So I realy think airflow through the radiator is not the problem.
