Hi there,

I often hear people talk about the width of a rim in tems of J, EG: 4.5j.

How do i tell or measure a wheel width with a J EG what would the J size be if I had a rim that was overall rim width of 200mm and a rim width of 180mm?

Thanks

Dont know what the J refers to -

The "4.5 of the 4.5J" Refers to the width i.e. 15x4.5J = 115 width 15 diameter

me thinks

"Standard wheels
The 911SC came standard with 15 inch diameter wheels
and with 16 inch diameter wheels offered as options.
The original factory wheel sizes in model year 1978 were
6JX15 front and 7JX15 rear.

Hi Neil

Apparently you measure from the INSIDE of the rim where the tyre would fit. So inside lip to inside lip.
This amount in inches (centimeters dividided by around 2.5) should give you 4.5/5.5J etc

I tried this on the rims from my bus and it worked.

So 180mm or 18cm would be what size J?

If I remember correctly J refers to the type of lip the rim has for sealing... the number before it is the width of the rim. EG refers to the offset of the mount where the bolts go in relation to the middle of the way between the lips of the wheel.

That is also my interpretation of the J suffix.

ET refers to the positive or negative offset, measured in millimetres.
