Hi guys

I had a call this morning from a movie company which needs a 50's Beetle for one day's worth of filming. It mustn't be a white car, rather any darker colour. The movie is set in 1957.
The payment is R 1000 (negotiable) for the day.
Shoot date:28 January, venue: Soweto.
Anyone interested?
Please send me an e-mail if you are - - then I will fw you the film company details etc.

Hey guys
Don't let the movie people screw you over. Ask for R1500 - R2000 for stills and R2500 plus if they're driving the car.

Oh HM, this is not against you, rather the movie people :)

Yes, I agree with Eugene on those numbers.

If there's a requirement for the car to be driven, insist that they employ you as the driver, over and above the hire rate for the car.

Also, insist on full insurance for ANY possible damage to the car.

Movie crews don't give a shit what they do to props, so you really don't want to let your car out of your sight.

It is not always all about the money. If I had a '57 Beetle that is a daily runner (I can guarantee you they are NOT looking for a show car anyway), I will offer it to them for free, provided they allow me on the set so that I can see how everything is done, and arrange for a day paid leave with my boss. Perhaps meet a few of the actresses, play boomswinger till it gets boring, sit on the REAL 'director's chair', be allowed to shout 'cut!' at the right time etc. as well?

A few years ago a Cape Town film crew were looking for a Bus, a Buggy and a Speedster. It turned out to be for a music video by Atomic Kitten. Imagine missing out on an opportunity to spend a day in their company over a lowsy R 500??

See the cars (and chicks) here, if you don't believe me:

I couldn't give a shit about being associated with celebrities. I have made my cars available to launches and film shoots on several occasions and always charged top dollar. I'm still left wondering if the hassle and damages are worth it.
