Just an update...
Done my 2nd service on the beetle since the motor was done by arno.
1st was on 250 miles, now the 2nd was done on 500 miles.
Did oil change, timing, set points, cleaned distributor cap contacts, and set tappets.
Now she runs like a new sixpence......
Oh yes, ...re-torqued the wheels that where powder coated, where loose, but now as firm as it should be.
Now we ready for the trip down to George, only car wash and polish still to go.......

Still running with the Fastback wheels, Silver rostyles, still not sure on the wheels, will most probably go to brown outer with ivory inner, and chrome caps.
But still have to paint the wheels.........

herman, Dont trust the powder coat wheels. Remove all paint that sits in the dishes under the bolts. They will come loose on the way to George.
My came off 3 or 4 times before, I took ALL the paint off.

Hi Guys,
Just to update this thread, I finally got down to doing some wheels for the 59 Beetle.
This was only due to the fact that the Fastback needs it wheels back..........
Did the Original VW wheels in Black with Black hub caps........Did not like it
Did the Original VW wheels in Black with Chrome hub caps........Did not like it
So I decided to "art up" the rostyles that I had, and see if it will work for me.....
So I painted more then the normal canter with black, a smaller section silver, only the 5 leg star in silver, with the chrome cap..............
Now that looks better.
This makes me think, that I should do the black parts in the same body brown, but wondering if its not going to be to "Dull" again.........
Oh Well, here are some photos, you look and tell me what you think.
NOW I know the Purists among you are going, " the lines are not striate, well I did say its been "Arted up"
When I "like", I will redo them permanently.

I like!
The "star" not being connected to the outer silver rim gives a polished lip look. Very nice.

Retrovan, See the middle picture. You seem to have missed a spot (strip of Black) on the right rear rim at the bottom as she stands.

Hi Van
My honest opinion: I like what you did with the Rostyles

, but they don't work on this beetle for me.
It's an early big window, and the wheels make it look "younger". Now if that was your SO, that would be a good thing, but an early bug needs period correct wheels to look it's best. Use it, don't use it.

Can't agree with you more, BUT... as it is a blacked out, or callook style, with little chrome, all this one-tone, makes it look "dull"
When I fit Std VW wheels with black caps, it looks like death warmed up, When I fit two tone period wheels with white walls, it looks like a clown.
When and if I do a full strip-down of this car, and bring it back to period, I will definitely do that, but till then, think it needs a little brightness, to stop it looking like a undertakers car.
But thanks for that, would seem we think the same lines.

How about standard rims, brown, with chrome big VW logo hubcaps, and some chrome beauty rings (the plain chrome type, not the one with the pattern) a.k.a. "bikini trim" as I believe the more mature generation used to call it in their youth?

Will definitely have to get some and test it, will only know when you see it on this Beetle.
Will take those any day, as long as the funny little bus goes with them....
Thanks
