Louis, when do you think this car will be on the track? I would love to come see it in action at Zwartkops.

I'm hoping to have it running in about three months. Keeping the #170 racer up and running also takes up heaps of time. :D

shouldnt the fuel return line run back to the tank itself?
That way you dont end up recirculating fuel that has been warmed slightly and thus have it warmer each time it recirculates.

The fuel pump will drain the surge tank if you return to the main tank. The pump can supply 300lt/hr, the 10mm feed pipe from the main tank to the surge tank cannot keep up to that kind of flow.

The heat in the fuel is the least of my worries. I think the amount of fuel the engine will use will anyway be enough that the fuel will not get time to heat up

ok, I admit.... this is not my prettiest work to date. I'm still learning to weld with the tig, and ally is even more difficult. But at least it's sealed :D

The suspension braces are almost done. Just one more bracket that fastens to the fuel tank brackets. Then its out with the old wiring and some fresh paint in the bonnet compartment.

Love your work Louis :hangloose:

What size pipe are you using for the suspension braces? Seems very small/thin  ? Will it support all the tension and forces whilst cornering all the time?

All the beetle suspension is still there. The braces are there only to give extra support.

The brace on the link pin is there to stop the bottom arms from flexing and the braces from the shock towers keep the outer parts of the H-beam from moving. I have found that there is a lot of flex on the H-beam itself.

Removed all the switches and the wiring loom last night. Funny how quick you can remove stuff compared to installing it. :D

I'll try to clean the bonnet compartment over the weekend and paint it properly.

Did some work on the engine last night.

Cleaned the Bugpack oil pump and assembled it onto the engine with some new o-rings. I still need some studs for the valve covers... then the engine itself is pretty much done.

Finished the distributor block off last night. As the engine will run from a crank trigger the distributor is no longer required. Still need to trim the engine tin to fit properly... and so it continues :D
